Folk Lounge

We are a vibrant community where traditional crafts flourish in contemporary hands—creating spaces for exploration, connection, and cultural continuation through textile arts and hand practices. Our gatherings merge diverse threads of experience, from first-time stitchers to master artisans, all united by the joy of creating together.

We play at the intersection of ancient traditions and modern expression, where hand work becomes magic to both cultural heritage and personal discovery. Through creative programming and events, we're cultivating an accessible ecosystem that welcomes curious beginners while inspiring established artists to push creative boundaries.

Traditional crafts are living practices that thrive through active engagement and thoughtful evolution. By gathering across generations and places, we reconnect creative practice with natural rhythms and urban ecology, grounding our work in both cultural lineage and present place.

So bring your curiosity, your heritage, your creative spark. We'll provide the community, the expertise, and the imaginative spaces where handcraft traditions can take root in contemporary soil and blossom into something both ancient and entirely new.

A trained facilitator, she is passionate about fostering community, collaboration, healing, and shared learning.

“My vision for the folk lounge is to use embroidery as a vehicle for learning craft, ornament & skill that creates inner harmony, peace and a creative outlet, but also goes into deeper domains of our ancestry, our diversity as well unity. It connects us to land, lore, flora and fauna. Learning embroidery is also learning symbolism, legends, mythology and the creation stories of the world, as well as pulling in music and dance in celebration of life. “ - Shagoh

Sacred Ground

We recognize that the land we occupy today is the traditional and ancestral homeland of the Tongva, Tataviam, Serrano, Kizh, and Chumash peoples. We honor their elders, past, present, and emerging, for their continued stewardship of these lands, waters, and communities. We acknowledge the deep and lasting impacts of settler colonization, including the displacement, violence, and trauma experienced by Indigenous peoples, and commit to the ongoing work of truth, reconciliation, and healing. As we gather and create here, we are grateful for the opportunity to learn, grow, and live on these sacred lands, and we support the elevation of Indigenous voices and cultures.

An interdisciplinary collective practicing craft & expanding the grammar of ornament.

hello@venusvale.com

Every stitch carries a whisper from the past, a light from the future. I created this series to connect generations through shared spaces where we can learn, create, and celebrate together. With roots in Armenian and Russian culture, I’m drawn to the language of ornament—and when I started embroidery, I knew it would be far more joyful as a collective experience.
